About The Faculty
In Elazig, the beautiful city of the East, our faculty started education and training activities in Elazig in the 1983-1984 academic year, according to the clause (a) of the 31st article of the decree law numbered 41 on the organization of higher education institutions after the publication of the Higher Education Law No. 2547.
Firat University Faculty of Medicine's new dean's building was completed on 18.05.2000 and the additional education building was put into service on 26.12.2011. In addition to the Management and Departments Units, there are a conference hall for 400 people, 7 lecture halls, 3 multidisciplinary laboratories and a library/reading room within the total gross general usage area of our faculty of 21,430 m2.
In our faculty, an integrated system has been adopted in medical education since the 2002-2003 academic year. Our nearly five thousand general practitioners specialist physicians who have graduated from our faculty until today continue to serve humanity both in our country and in many other countries by joining our health force.
Our practical/internship/applied trainings are carried out at Firat University Hospital. Firat University Hospital is a health institution with a closed area of 160,000 m2, a bed capacity of 1100 and serving approximately one million polyclinic patients annually.
Next to the Faculty of Medicine building, the construction of a sports complex consisting of an astroturf, basketball, volleyball court and tennis court has been completed. The landscaping works of the Faculty of Medicine and the Firat University Hospital continue by being renewed.
As of June 2022 in our faculty; 82 Professors, 66 Associate Professors, 37 Dr. Instructor Our education continues with a member, 3 lecturers, 447 research assistants and 1208 students.
Since the establishment of our faculty; Prof. Dr. Oktay OZKARAKAS, Prof. Dr. Gursel ORTUG, Prof. Dr. Suleyman Sirri KILIC, Prof. Dr. Ozge ARDICOGLU, Prof. Dr. Omer Lutfi ERHAN, Prof. Dr. Irfan ORHAN, Prof. Dr. Murad ATMACA, Prof. Dr. Ahmet KAZEZ originally served as the dean. Currently, this task is carried out by Prof. Dr. Metin Kaya GURGOZE continues.
